 The first prospectors who laid out the mining claim for the Buckeye Ridge Gold Mine stayed for less time than it took to build the original home that is today the K Bar S Lodge. The rough and tumble, get-rich-quick schemers of those days dreamed of the big score that would send them home rich and famous. In the hard-luck days of the gold rush, thousands of gold seekers came from around the country and around the world in search of this elusive mineral. Virtually all of them went home disappointed. Those original mining claims of 1876, unsuccessful as a gold mine, form the basis of what is today the K Bar S Lodge - owned by the Riddle family. They have been in the jewelry business for over 40 years and have learned as many before them did not, that success is not an overnight prospect. In those four plus decades, the Riddle name has become synonymous with fine gold and diamond jewelry in 10 states throughout the Midwest and plains. Today the K Bar S offers the comforts of home that the original gold seekers left behind when they came to the Black Hills.
